Gigondas. A Provencal vineyard of great repute since the Gallo-Roman period owing to its red wines so full of character. The wine-growers make themselves abide by a strict set of rules : a maximum yield fixed at 36 hl per hectare, sorting of the grapes so as to keep only the best…
The Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault grape varieties of Santa Duc grow in two types of soils : the one being on the calcareous marls of the Cretaceous period on the area of Clos Derrière Vieille (the hillside behind the old Hospices of the village) ; the other being on the poor red stony clay soils of Quaternary period ; these areas are Les Hautes Garrigues, Les Carbonnières, Les Rocassières, Santa Duc, Les Pailleroudas, Le Goujard et Plane.
The combination of these contrasting soils gives balanced wines, both full-bodied and yet elegant.
1874. The first buildings. Five generations have succeeded to the « Domain Santa Duc ». In turn, they each make their mark, raising the property up to being within the rank of the greatest of Gigondas. Generosity and willingness will be needed for the successions not to divide up the estate. Nowadays at last, the fruit of the work and the passion of this family is recognised throughout the entire world.

They then infuse slowly, about ten days, to deliver red wine with complex aromas and fine tannins before being aged in large barrels.
At Santa Duc, we know how to keep it simple. The cold maceration of the harvests, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, ageing on fine lees, bottling without filtration… They also know how to apply new data found through research and to employ the best technicians.
